There is a huge amount of information associated with movies, so it can be difficult to tell when a certain movie came out or who directed it. If collecting and managing movies is your passion, then you may find MovieShelf quite useful. It allows you to organize your movies in a database, along with various details, genre, year, actors, director, plot and so on. The software was designed for large movie collections. It can retrieve relevant information from the Internet, so you don't have to spend hours typing the plot of each movie.

MovieShelf comes in English and Hungarian and it is offered free of charge. The installation file is only 700 KB, which can be downloaded in just a few seconds with a modern day Internet connection. Although the setup wizard needs to download additional files from the Internet, installing the software should not take more than a minute, even on older machines. The software can be used on all popular Windows versions and it doesn't ask for too many resources.

Movies can be organized in one or more lists, which can be displayed on the same user interface, at the same time. Movie titles are listed on the left half of the interface and their corresponding details are displayed on the right half. Once you create a new entry, you can edit its details manually, by typing names, plots and so on, in separate input fields.

The best way to add information to a film entry is to click a Search button after typing its name, instead of creating the entry. This will display a series of IMDB search results. If you spot the title you are looking for you can select it and click a button to create a database entry.

The retrieved information includes everything you need to know about a movie, like plot, storyline, cast, directors, images and more. You can also find links to online trailers. Furthermore, you can filter the listed titles by list, genre and language. Besides movie entries, the software can also retrieve information about actors. Another interesting feature is the possibility of sending database entries via email. If someone asks you about a movie's cast or director, you can send all the information they need with a single click.
